终止性动词在否定句中可与一段时间连用，由于终止性动词一旦被否定就成了状况，而状况一直可以延续的——譬如：“离开”是终止性的，而“没离开”则是一种状语，它是可以延续的，所以可以连用一段时间。如：

I haven’t seen Tom for some years. 我有好几年没见到汤姆了。

He has not borrowed the book since then. 从此将来，他再也没借这本书了。

The princess did not waken for a hundred years. 公主100年没醒来。

I haven’t bought anything for three months. 我有三个月没买过任何东西。
