这里的 around 我能理解成介词，由于 travel 应是不及物动词，the globe 不可以直接作宾语。
例子2：So what this company is doing is searching around the world and gathering naturally occurring microorganisms that do both things.
这里的 around 能否理解成副词呢？由于此句中我感觉 search 可以是及物动词，around 作副词修饰此句的 searching，然后 the world 作 searching 的宾语。
所以，怎么样理解 around 的词性呢？

关于search around the world 这个词组，先做两个假设：
1. 假如search是“不及物动词”，那样around就是介词。
2. 假如search是“及物动词”，那样around就是副词，而且，还可以说search the world around —— 果真可以吗？
答案是，一定不能。
第二，从search的词义看，用作“及物动词”时，其宾语需要是：搜寻/搜索的对象；探求/追求的对象。既然这样，the world能search吗？
大家可以说：
search the house（比如警察搜查房屋）
search for the information （探寻信息）
search for the information around the world（在全世界范围内探寻信息）
search around the world（在全世界范围内探寻）
但不可以说：
search the information （“信息”没办法“被搜”，只能“被找”）
search the world （把世界搜查一遍），“地球”不是“一所房屋”，“ 搜查一遍”恐怕哪个也办不到。
答案是：search around the world 这个词组中，around 是介词，不是副词。
