参考书上说，student ID card 的意思是“学生证”，但我也见过直接用 student card 表示“学生证”，请问这里的 ID 可以省略吗？汉语中说的“学生证”有什么翻译办法？可以用 student 的所有格吗？譬如用a student's card。
1. ID card
ID card 的意思是“身份证”（= identificationcard）。如：
He flashed his IDcard. 他亮了一下我们的身份证。
You can’t get inwithout your ID card. 你没身份证就不可以进入。
2. student ID card
student ID card 的意思是“学生身份证”，一般简称“学生证”。如：
You can’t get inwithout a student ID card. 你没学生证是不可以进入的。
Discounts willonly be given on production of your student ID card. 须出示学生证方可优惠。
3. student card
student card的字面意思是“学生卡”，也可以表示“学生证”，不如用 student ID card 正式，但比 student ID card 用得更常见。如：
You can get tenpercent off with a student card. 用你的学生证可以给你打九折。
They let you infree if you show your student card. 假如你出示学生证，他们就会叫你免费进入。
Students mustshow their ID cards before using the library. 学生在进入图书馆时需要出示学生证。

4. student’s card
至于用 student 的所有格，说成 a student’s card，比较少见，但更不是不能。如：

其实，a student’s card 的实质意思是“学生的卡片”或“学生的证件”；a student’s ID card的实质意思是“学生的身份证”（尽管大家可以简单地理解为“学生证”）。换句话说，student card 为复合名词，是一个整体；而 a student’scard 是所有格 student’s 修饰 card。
